I carried you beneath my heart,
My daughter, you're my own,
And now a woman you've become,
My little girl now grown.
Perhaps one day you'll understand
The love for you I feel,
When tiny fingers clutch your heart
A mother's love reveal.
Flesh of your flesh, bone of your bone,
A gift you can embrace,
A miracle you'll always glimpse
Each time you see her face.
And though I'd give my life for you,
There's One who loves you more,
Who longs to hold you in His lap
Affection on you pour.
So when you're lonely and afraid
Remember you are loved,
Not only by this mother
But the Father up above.
