The Leaves of October - a Fall Poem - Yahoo! Voices

The Leaves of October - a Fall Poem

I love the cooler weather October brings, the bright blue sky and the colorful falling leaves. The sight of fall leaves spinning in an October breeze always makes me want to dance with them! This is a poem in celebration of autumn and the beauty of October leaves:

HEAVEN ‘CAN’T WAIT’

As sun fades on horizons’ west
I ponder how the day’s progressed
And wonder what tomorrow has in store
In many ways I find I’m blessed
In others find I’ve flunked the test
But always find I yearn for something more

I think of all our world can bring
New house, new car, new fancy thing
These things might satisfy me for a while
Then I look beyond this place
Unto that realm where pain’s erased
Unchaining my involuntary smile

What wonders loom at Heavens’ Gate?
I’d set off now, but have to wait
And do the tasks to which I’ve been assigned
But Father, could you fast-track me?
’Cos Lord I really want to see
The awesomeness that’s sure to blow my mind

What will I do when I get there?
Sit upon a golden chair
Or will I be too stunned and overwhelmed?
Will I ride about on horses back
Or take off from a gold tarmac
And soar with angels wings throughout the realm?

Will I have a brand new name
And Lord, will I still look the same?
I know my aches and niggles will be gone
As angels sing and trumpets blow
I know I’ll have a brand new glow
Reflections of your glory looked upon

When I join the heavenly host
Will I be sent to some outpost?
Could I hang around the throne room for a time
To gaze upon your awesome face
And sing about your awesome grace
That brought me here despite my earthly grime?

Will I be a messenger
A fast angelic courier
Surfing through the stars at speeds untold?
Or will the notes I play expand
In a long haired angels rockin’ band
Bringing vital sound to streets of gold?

Can we run around and kick a ball?
Do you have a sport and what’s it called?
I bet there’s no shame being on the losing team
Do the runners up get a trophy too?
Do angels roar when goals go through?
Can you lose your voice in heaven when you scream?

If I’m there before that final day
When all our tears are washed away
And Jesus comes to end all misery
Will I join your army Lord
To smash the devil and his hordes
And bring about your finest victory?

For now, I’ll try not to complain
I’ll live my life where you still reign
And admit I have no clue without a fuss
For no ear has heard, nor eye perceived
Our earthly minds just can’t conceive
The wonders that you have in store for us

Power and Love

Who gave the sun its’ warmth and its’ light?
Whose will caused our planet to spin into night?
Who dressed the clouds in their grey and their white
And allotted their voice such a thunderous might?

Who laid out the oceans and gave them their girth?
Who scatters His lightning across all the earth?
Who takes away empires, gives others new birth?
Who can do all of this and yet still see my worth?

Who lifted the mightiest mountain range
Up into the sky, so imposing and strange?
Who sends forth the winds and who has arranged
Four life-giving seasons to ebb and to change?

Who spread out the lights in the nights’ starry sky?
Who feathered the Eagle and taught it to fly?
Who waters one place and leaves another one dry?
Who can do all of this and yet still hear my cry?

Whose voice thunders down with the mightiest roar?
Whose power can shake the whole earth to its’ core?
Whose splendor decrees that all angels adore?
Who gives us His all and has promised us more?

Whose presence commands that all evil shall flee?
Whose justice demands that for sin, there’s a fee?
Whose wisdom and love nailed that sin to a tree?
Who sent His own Son to recover deaths’ key?

Whose mighty hand picks me up when I’m down?
Whose mighty grace turned the lost into found?
Whose promise declares that I’m Heavenward bound?
My Father who says I’m a jewel in His crown.
