The Arms That Held the Rifle

He went to war without a moment’s pause,

Believing in his country’s righteous cause,

He left the fields, the farms, his family

And joined a band of brothers—the Army. 

He sacrificed the comforts he had earned

His arms now held a rifle, safety spurned.
